Ferarri 348 Twin Turbo

FERRARI 348 TWIN TURBO
Price: $130,000 (estimated).
Birthdate: After the Lamborghini P140.
How to say it: “Ma-ma-MEE—yuh.”

If you notice a tacky wing on the rump of a Ferrari 348, you’ve spotted one of Maranellols twin-turbo mules. The engine in that car was originally conceived as a 250-bp, 2.0-liter, “tax—friendly” iteration but worldwide demand for the standard 3.4-liter car remains so high that Ferrari balked at calming the revenue agents. That left the engi-neers free to strap one turbo on each side of the existing 296—bp V-8—a lash-up that may be offered publicly if Lamborghini’s P140 turns out to embarrass the 348 in drag races.
