The ultimate guide to Porsche

Porsche – born long before us, and will live long after us.

It passed through the hands of three generations, becoming better and better. A dream car of Ferdinand Porsche (Ferry), this Volkswagen Beetle based sports car was born in Austria in 1948. Ferry’s focus was a humble marriage of speed and efficiency. His father, (a professor, genius designer and an engineer), approved his first design as “every single bolt was just right”. By 1965, there were 78,000 buyers, who appreciated Porsche 356 model over the world.

Porsche was a collector of accolades from the beginning. In a perfect track, a desert or a snow-covered terrain, it is a winning ground for this exotic car. In 1983, it collected nine places out of first 10, in Le Mans. It was a threat to any other in the track.
Initial 356 models were an open mid- rear engine roadsters with an 1131cc Volkswagen engine, with a tubular form. It was a moderated version of a VW. Series 356-2 came with a metal platform, and same tubular form of 356 versions, and a rear engine, two-door coupe style. Both 356-1 and 2 has aluminium bodies.

Gmund 356-2s used the convertible drop headed cabriolets, and became steel based. Short, squatty model of Porsche was receiving criticisms for its adaptations from VW design – steel chassis, cable operated brakes, rear swing axle and the same gearbox of VW. In 1952, Porsche developed its own fully synchronized gearbox. The body was slowly taking shape to please the eye of vanity seeker.
Beginning with an engine of 1100cc, 40hp – 1950 model 356, manufacturers extended the capabilities of the exotic car, under different ranges and brands – normal, super, carrera, turbo – towards the 911 GT3 RS and Electric Vehicles, focusing on their main objective; a super car with efficiency.

Modern cars are top notches in the road, exposing their carbon-fibre front hoods, rear wings and roofs. Much lighter with magnesium wheels, which reduces rotational mass for handling. Compared to the earlier versions Porsche now comprised with an engine of 4.0lt, 520hp, with 346lb-ft torque in its 911 GT3 RS, but still based on Ferry Porsche’s original concept “a small light weight super car that uses energy efficiently”.

A car developed for excellence in every aspect, whether it is the make, material, or performance, Porsche depicts the glory of German skills and perfection. From the humble 356, throughout the life span of 911, to the modern versions of Boxster and Cayenne this machine maintained the high quality, for the car enthusiast. Today its Boxster roadsters, Cayenne coupes, SUVs, CUVs and luxury sedans compete in the market adopting modern electric car technology, providing different options for different segments.
